Happy Andrada: Fashion Happy-ness

MANILA, Philippines - Happiness comes to those who give their best. Take it from Happy Andrada, a young Filipino fashion designer who joyfully makes every design her masterpiece. Fresh from her achievements as Animax’s featured designer in Singapore’s Toy, Games & Comic Convention; the country’s representative for Korea’s International Fashion Art Event; Japan’s Fashion Design Competition; awardee of Go Negosyo’s Inspiring Young Filipino Entrepreneur, Happy won Swatch’s My Rabbit Story contest recently.

Happy and three cutting-edge artists were tapped by Animax, a Singapore-based youth channel, to design exclusive limited-edition tote bags. Happy’s tote bag adopted the witty wordplay of her own name. “I’m Happy, You’re Happy, We’re All Happy.” For the background, Happy used the star because it symbolizes the pinnacle of success. It is such her personal favorite, a total of 11 stars are even tattooed on her arm. Meanwhile, the other artists added their own style to the tote bags.

Hoppy winner: Happy won the grand prize in the STAR-Swatch contest “My Rabbit Story.”  Her entry “Hop, Hop, Happy” was a four-piece avant-garde, fashion-forward cocktail wear creation inspired by the Swatch Chinese New Year Watch. 

Cutout, a magazine publisher from Malaysia, created a unique fantasy setting in the world of anime. eeShaun, Singaore’s top illustrator, executed a cute drawing of the anime character Spooky Kitaro. Camilla d’Errico, an artist from the US, used Kuro, one of the main characters from her famous comic book Tampopo.

Happy beams with pride for being chosen by Korea Fashion & Culture Association as the sole representative of the Philippines in the International Fashion Art Biennale held in Seoul, South Korea. The event commemorated the 60th anniversary of the Korean War and highlighted Korea ‘s revitalized national identity and its place in the global culture scene by gathering international fashion and art talents from 16 countries at the prestigious Seoul Arts Center. With the event’s theme “War and Peace,” Happy promoted Filipino creativity with her military-inspired designs. The four-piece collection focused on elaborate detailing, intriguing mix of materials, and knack for texture and cut.

Happy also participated as one of the finalists in the Japan Fashion Design Competition held in Tokyo, Japan. Her entry “The Global Trotter” was an avant-garde outfit made from indigenous materials that incorporated the use of pockets for detail, designed for the woman on the go. 

Seoul searching: Happy was chosen by Korea Fashion & Culture Association as the sole representative of the Philippines in the International Fashion Art Biennale held in Seoul, South Korea.  Happy promoted Filipino creativity with her military-inspired, four-piece collection focused on elaborate detailing.

For all her efforts and hard work, Happy has won awards recently. Happy and her sister Viva were awarded by Go Negosyo as Inspiring Young Filipino Entrepreneurs for their business F*ART Fashion Art.  Happy also won the grand prize in the contest of Swatch “My Rabbit Story” contest. Happy is a part of The Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2011, ongoing until May 15 at the SMX Convention center.
