Carmina, Cassy and Mavy: Our dogs make us laugh

Celebrity mom Carmina Villarroel is a “sige mom.”  As such, she allows her kids to get down and dirty.

Carmina is currently a regular Saturday talk show host on Showbiz Inside Report on ABS-CBN.  She is also currently taping her new teleserye. Her kids with Zoren Legaspi, Mavy and Cassy, are twins who are 12 years old and in Grade 7.

One of the more recent advertisements of Carmina with her twins is Breeze. It shows Carmina as a mom who allows her kids to play and have fun — even if the consequence is a whole lot of dirty laundry.

“My twins Mavy and Cassy are very active,” Carmina beams. “I want them to have the kind of childhood that I had. Laking kalye ako, hindi lang halata. I practically let them do what they want — play with their friends, go biking, swimming or even play badminton, if that is what they want to do.”

Aside from the twins, Carmina has five other babies that her kids are in love with — two Maltese Terriers, two Doberman Pinschers and a Golden Retriever.

When it comes to playing with the dogs — whether indoors or out — Carmina is all for it.

“Like a typical mom I would say, ‘Wag, kasi madumi,’ but after a while I let them be, and let them spend quality time with the dogs,” Carmina adds.  The kids also need to experience na madapa o masugatan because that’s how they learn. But playing with the dogs is really fun time for the kids. They laugh at the antics of the dogs — and the dogs always seem to want to make Mavy and Cassy happy.”

In truth, having fun with the dogs is not something that Carmina needed to teach her twins. The kids were instantly in love with each dog as soon as each came into their home. 

PHILIPPINE STAR: What is it about having dogs that makes you happy?

CARMINA VILLARROEL: Dogs are cute, sweet and adorable.  They do a lot of things that make us happy.

What kind of dogs do you have?

We have two Maltese Terriers named Fufu and Ufuf, two Doberman Pinschers that we call Dollar and Nova, and a Golden Retriever called Sunny.

What do you and your dogs do together?

MAVY and CASSY: We play together.  When we get home from school, we like to run around the garden with them. We also know that they are happy when we give them treats.

Do you take your dogs out shopping with you when you have the time?

CARMINA: Sometimes we would bring them to Boni High Street so that we can walk them around. We also bring them with us when we go to our beach house in Batangas.   The dogs love to swim and we like to swim with them.

What is the best thing about having a dog?

MAVY and CASSY: When  we get  home from school, when we see them, nakakawala ng pagod.  They’re part of our family.

When you got your dogs, was it a family decision?

CARMINA: It was a family decision.  I made sure to involve everyone in the process because I wanted to be sure that each one of us in the family would love each dog we have.

Do your kids enjoy playtime with the dogs?

CARMINA: I allow Mavy and Cassy to play with our dogs in any way they like. I know that the dogs enjoy being with the kids as much as the kids love playing with them.

Who is harder to discipline — the dogs or your kids?

CARMINA: Hmmm ...  I’m lucky we have good and well-behaved kids and dogs.

Do you bathe your dogs?

CARMINA: Yes, we bathe them. This is also a good bonding time for our whole family. We have fun during these moments — no matter how dirty we get.
