MANILA, Philippines — A video of Hollywood stars reenacting famous lines from classic Filipino movies has went viral on social media.
In a video posted by Filipino telecom company Globe on October 11, the lead stars of “Riverdale,” a coming-of-age Netflix series based on Archie Comics characters, can be seen dramatizing lines from Filipino blockbusters such as “Darna,” “Bituing Walang Ningning” and “One More Chance.”
KJ Apa, who plays Archie in “Riverdale,” can be seen delivering the line of John Lloyd Cruz’s character, Popoy, in the 2007 romantic drama “One More Chance.”
Cole Sprouse, who portrays Jughead in the series, can be spotted in the video shouting Darna’s Tagalog line, “Ding! Ang bato!”
“Alright. I think we nailed it,” he said after the reenactment. “Is this when I swallow the stone whole and turn into a superhero? Perfect.”
Lili Reinhart, who plays as Betty, renders a subtle touch to the English version of Nora Aunor’s “Himala.”
Camila Mendes, who has been known in the series as Veronica, channeled Cherie Gil’s memorable line from “Bituing Walang Ningning,” but without splashing wine.
The video is a promotional material for “Riverdale” season 3, which premiered on October 11.
With tensions between the North and Southside at an all-time high — stoked by Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) with the help of Reggie Mantle (Charles Melton), and intensified with the Black Hood’s unexpected re-emergence — a civil war seemed imminent. And, indeed, after a brief respite during which everyone came together to put on “Carrie the Musical,” directed by Kevin Keller (Casey Cott), Season 2 built to a riot that brought out the worst (and best) of Riverdale and its citizens, and culminated in the shocking arrest of one of the main characters.
In Season 3, it is the start of junior year and the gang is forced to think about something new—their future. But with Hiram now in control of the Southside, Archie (KJ Apa) on trial for murder, and complicated romantic relationships forming, fans can expect a gripping start to the new season.
