Park Jun's Beauty Lab

I have to admit that I’ve never really developed a fascination for anything Korean, except for food. Occasionally I crave   Korean ice lollies from my neighborhood Korean supermarket. I never got hooked on Koreanovelas, nor do I share my friend Quark Henares’s obsession for Sandara Park’s new pop girl group 2NE1.

I do think that Korean girls are blessed with natural cuteness, which makes what most people consider a fashion faux pas cute or at least forgivable.

I think it must be the hair — they always have some odd cut that makes them stand out.

Fortunately, along with the Korean invasion in Manila, has come one of Korea’s fastest growing salons, Park Jun’s Beauty Lab.

Franchised by Stacey Kim, YJ Kum, and Victor Siasat, the two-story salon in Glorietta 3 is the best place to get that Koreanovela cut you always wanted, amongst other pampering treats they have: a complete range of Kerastase treatments, color, styling, waxing, manicure, pedicure, makeup, threading, hair extensions, and perm.

One of their specialties is volume rebonding, a service I never thought I would ever consider as I’ve had curly hair from birth. But creative director Maiya Noh convinced me to come back another time to try it.

Using Japanese techniques, it doesn’t just straighten hair, but adds volume, which cancelled out my fears of having “walis tingting” hair post-straightening. Another plus of Park Jun’s Beauty Lab: artistic director Kino Lee specializes in edgy cuts for men, so hipster boys can rejoice and get the cut of their dreams.
