The objective was to usher in 2017 with a party to end all parties. The Casino Español de Cebu’s New Year’s Eve Baile de Disfrace, the venue of choice for a good number of Cebu’s society, was festive and spectacular.
The Salon de España was transformed from its usual somber and formal look into a room bursting with a kaleidoscope of colors with drapes in midnight blue, red, green and gold, hanging from the ceiling. Adding to these were the revelers who came dressed in their glitzy frocks to dance away the old year.
As with tradition, members who gamely adhered to the dress code paraded in their costumes to vie for the coveted prizes. In the individual female category, Coney Selma dressed as a lady army officer was the winner and Paz Pelaez as Princess Sophia was runner-up. For the male category, Glenn Loop as an American Indian was declared winner and Tony Lozada as sheriff and Percival Llaban as Japanese Ninja, were runners-up.
The champions, John Edward and Mary Angeli de las Peñas with their bodies coated in gold, were easily the winners in the couple category. Gabby Leyson and Tina Jornada as Gravity, and Bingen and Annette Mendezona as zombie hunters came in second and third respectively.
In the Small Group Category, The Hogwarts students were the winners and in the Big Group Category the Dia de los Muertos brought home the prize.
Casino always makes sure that all the favorites are part of the menu for the grand buffet. An abundance of paella and other feast staples were served.
Credit must be given to club president Louie Moro, board general manager May Ocaba and the staff for really knowing how to welcome the New Year with a bang.
