Extreme biking down south

MANILA, Philippines - From the northern mountains of Baguio to the southern trails of Bohol, the Philippines has always been the perfect place for two-wheeled adventures. But bikers from Manila, who only have a weekend to spare probably long for places that are easily within reach, yet still affords them a similar riding experience like great vista of nature in the countryside.

A group of bikers from De La Salle Zobel recently discovered a new trail beginning in Alabang, all the way down to Susana Heights before leading up to the lush, rolling terrains of Lindenwood Residences, a prime project of SM Development Corporation (SMDC).

The bike trail, which was used during the staging of the first Crank It! event organized by Annette Maderal of the De La Salle Zobel Alumni Association, in partnership with SMDC, has become an instant hit among the event’s participants.

“Biking is a rapidly growing sport here,” says Annette, “that’s why we have decided to stage, as a fund-raising activity for the Silver Jubilee of our alumni association, a downhill biking competition for enthusiasts of the sport starting from Alabang, down to Lindenwood Residences in Susana Heights.”

Extreme biking enthusiasts converge at Lindenwood Residences.

According to Annette, clubs of dedicated bikers are now springing up in many popular areas, and biking competitions like what they’ve put up at Lindenwood Residences have since become very common.

“Most local bikers are friendly and accommodating, always willing to share information about their favorite routes,” she beams. “You can actually join bikers’ groups at the SM Mall of Asia complex, which attracts crowds as early as 5 a.m. during weekends, and you could be well on your way to an exciting two-wheel riding hobby!”

Annette points out that next to swimming, biking is actually the only other sport that provides a complete workout, and most bikers say its more enjoyable since you also get sightseeing on the side just like what participants of Crank It! did.

Aside from the lush surroundings, Crank It! participants got an added bonus at the end of the trail: the chance to relax and unwind after a tough grind at the clubhouse of Lindenwood Residences.

Lindenwood Residences features other sports facilities like a swimming pool and a basketball court as well as parks and playground to go with its fully equipped clubhouse that will cater to any sports-minded individual.
