Petal attraction at horticulture show

The Philippine Horticultural Society recently held its annual grand show. I heard it was a rousing success, and I must congratulate the leadership of the society for another job well done. Unfortunately, I was abroad at the time and missed the show completely. Fortunately, Cactus & Succulent Society long-time member Cesar Cheng and his son Jansen were there to document some of the show’s highlights.

Today’s article is a photo tribute to Horti 2005 taken by Jansen which, in my opinion, really captures the beauty and dazzle of the event. Our society’s entry in the landscape exhibition was very well-conceived, designed and executed by Serapion Metilla. I must extend my heartfelt congratulations as well to Mett on his fine work.

Now that summertime is just about here, I expect our plant wards will start doing much better again (at least mine anyway). This is that time of the year when most cacti and many succulents start to put out new growth, root systems reinvigorate, and flower production begins in earnest. I will be featuring this summertime’s resurgence in the next few months. In the meantime, enjoy Jansen’s wonderful photo montage of Horti 2005!
