Kygo is coming to Manila on Oct. 25 and local music fans are going crazy.
Born Kyrre Gorvell-Dahll, the Norwegian sensation is a DJ, a record producer, a songwriter and a musician. A few years ago, he introduced a lifestyle brand, Kygo Life, which includes high fashion wear and also items like headphones.
He is known as the artist who reached one billion streams on Spotify the fastest, which happened in December 2015.
He has already collaborated with the biggest names in the industry but looks forward to working with Ed Sheeran and The Weekend someday.
Produced by Ovation Productions, his show will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Philippine STAR: Why did you decide to get into music? Who was your inspiration?
KYGO: My mom started making me take piano lessons when I was six years old. It wasn’t until I was a teenager that I started playing around with my own melodies and sounds which were inspired by Avicii’s early releases.
What sports are you into?
I grew up skiing and playing soccer and still do both when I have free time. I never really played golf much so it’s always frustrating.
Do performers make it a point to stay in shape?
I can’t speak for other performers but I always try to work out when I’m on the road. I have a trainer who travels with me so we do everything from cardio to core and weights. Getting in the gym helps fight jet lag and keeps me in good shape. I like to run as a warm up then start my workout in the gym and do that as many times a week as possible.
How has your family influenced your life throughout your journey as a successful artist?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. They have been so supportive of me as a person and my career and encouraged me to leave university to pursue music full time. I live in my hometown Bergen so when I’m not on the road I see them all the time and they come out to shows around the world as well.
What can people expect from your show in Manila?
They can expect new music, a few classics and some of my favorite songs right now. I’ll be bringing some singers and have a couple surprises as well.
Is there anything you heard about Manila that you want to try, do or visit?
I’ve heard so many incredible things about Manila from my friends. I can’t wait to try the food and hopefully I’ll have time to check out a few of the museums, parks, chapels and Intramuros.
How was the experience of performing in the Rio Olympics closing ceremony?
It was a surreal feeling. To perform in front of 90,000 people in the Olympic stadium with billions of people watching around the world was something I will never forget.
How did you start branching out into making your own lifestyle brand?
I’ve always been really into fashion so it felt like a natural next step for me. I’m very passionate about audio products and headphones which is why I launched my audio line. We have some new models coming out soon that I’m excited about!
Why is Manchester United your favorite football team?
I’m good friends with Juan Mata so he always has me rooting for Man U.
