Shining stars at Child Haus this Christmas

MANILA, Philippines - This Yuletide season, share your blessings with the children of CHILD (Center for Health Improvement and Life Development) Haus, a halfway home for indigent children afflicted with cancer and other life-threatening diseases, through “My Shining Star,” a fundraising project of the Ricky Reyes Salons.

For a donation at any branch of Ricky Reyes Salon, a colorful lantern will be hung in the salon in your name for Child Haus. The fundraising project culminates on December 16, where all lanterns collected at the Ricky Reyes Salons will be displayed in a star-studded concert at the Amoranto Stadium and the collected amount turned over to Child Haus. Donors can claim the lanterns after the event, to hang in their own homes.

Child Haus was founded by hairdresser-civic worker Ricky Reyes in 2003. It has since served as a home away from home to over 7,000 patients afflicted with cancer, leukemia, hydrocephalus, meningocele, biliary atresia, congenital heart disease, and other debilitating diseases.

With a new home located along V. Luna St. in Quezon City, Child Haus provides free room and board to patients from the provinces with no place to stay in Metro Manila while undergoing medical evaluation or treatment. The shelter relies solely on donations for its operating expenses, which reach P5-7 million a year to cover food and medical expenses, and the upkeep of the home. Child Haus also gives holistic healing services to address the emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical aspects of the patient, and to treat the whole person.

Through “My Shining Star,” Ricky Reyes once again takes up his role as the “professional beggar” for his charity and knocks on the hearts of the Filipino public to make a difference in the lives of sick children.

“The spirit of Christmas is sharing,” Reyes states. “A small sacrifice on our part will go a long way towards easing these suffering children’s burden.”
