You and yoga

MANILA, Philippines - “The approach that we take in all of our programs is holistic. We look at the whole person to determine what his needs are, and endeavor to create well-being through balance,” says Alejandro Garzon of Yoga Wholistics iNQ, a yoga lifestyle and wellness organization.

“Balance is the key. There are seven main energy centers or chakras that rule all of our body functions (base, sacral, solar, heart, throat, brow, and crown), and if any one of these chakras is weak, blocked, displaced or congested, we have disharmony in our entire being. These chakra systems include the emotional and mental functions as well, and this energy circuitry is the principle on which hatha yoga, ayurveda (the ancient Indian healing system), traditional Chinese medicine, and even martial arts are based.

“Our kiddie yoga program, for example, is not just great fun and physical exercise, but also meditation, art and music interpretation, storytelling, and dance, etc. We develop a rapport with the children to deliver a message of balance on every level. You cannot have physical wellness if your feelings are perturbed and you cannot have an optimally functioning body if you are stressed out. In our complex world, our equilibrium and peace of mind are often compromised to some extent by our toxic environment, our activities, and sometimes even the food that we eat. Yoga and meditation meet this challenge with the perfection of ancient wisdom.”

Yoga Wholistics iNQ’s programs are available as summer workshops and throughout the year: Kiddie Yoga Art & Music Meditation; Chakra Yoga Energy Balance; PATH Stress Management (for groups); and The Veggie Viand vegetarian cooking and raw food.
