An afternoon with my Lolo Joe

An afternoon with my Lolo Joe is a time I always look forward to. Unknown to many, my Lolo Joe is actually a very kind, loving, and funny man. I usually visit him with my sister Karrel and good friend Max. Lolo Joe always asks us about our studies. He encourages us to read books, telling us that our books will let us travel to many places we may never see. Through books, he says, we will learn about the lives of many great leaders and follow their good examples. Also whenever we can, we should express our thoughts and feelings through painting or writing. According to Lolo Joe, the pen is mightier than the sword. He always pushes us to excel in everything we do, especially in our studies. And if we do good in school, he gives us gift certificates! Which, in a way, makes him a truly great motivator who encourages us to excel in school.

In spite of Lolo’s busy schedule, he makes it a point to give time to his apos. The best part of the visit is always when Lolo cooks (honestly, he does it better than Lola Gina). My Lolo Joe cooks the best vongole and steak in town! You really have to try it! I consider him a great chef especially because of his vongole. He personally marinates and cooks his steaks. Trust us, our taste buds can tell if Lolo was not the one who cooked the steak. Lolo’s personal touch, with a dash of love, makes the great difference.

Everytime we eat Lolo’s steak, we would crave for more! Especially Max! He would go, "Mmmm! I want more!" After lunch, we would settle probably for a game of chess or baseball with Lolo Joe, afterwhich, he would tell us stories about the past. I’ve noticed that there are always people asking for Lolo’s help/advice in the house, but he always makes sure to take time out for me, Karrel, and Max, even though there are people waiting for him.

One thing about Lolo Joe is how he teaches us to be good to others and to be strong at all times. He is also a very religious man. He always reminds us to pray to God to keep us all safe from harm and for the good of the country and our people.

We love our Lolo Joe dearly and he will always be engraved in our hearts. He actually reminds me of this saying "A torch does not lose its flame by helping light another torch..." Our Lolo shall always be our torch ... our hero!

To our dear Lolo Joe, thanks for everything, especially for your unconditional love. We love you. And by the way, we’ll be waiting for your promise to take us to Disneyland.
