Immersive viewing with the new Toshiba Pro Theater TVs

MANILA, Philippines - The larger the screen, the greater the excitement,” said Shigenori Tokumitsu, president of Toshiba’s Digital Products & Services Company. “We asked ourselves ‘What is the core value of TV? What do people expect from TV?’ (We realize that) if you just want to watch content or check information, you don’t need TV. A smart phone or tablet is good enough for that.”

But for most of us, the novelty of being able to watch movies on small portable devices has admittedly waned. And thus, Toshiba’s newest line-up of LED televisions introduced recently in Singapore is a welcome development.  Called “Pro Theatre” and consisting of large- screened models powered by cutting-edge technology, the televisions will be available throughout the ASEAN region in the coming months.

The new line of Toshiba TVs utilizes “Intelligent Auto View,” a “new technology grounded in studies of the human brain-eye characteristics, and on analysis of the picture parameters in the professional monitors used by filmmakers.” Simply put, this is a feature that is able to monitor room brightness and other aspects of the viewing environment before automatically adjusting picture parameters such as color temperature, color depth, sharpness and backlight to deliver the best picture quality.

Understandably, Tokumitsu describes the Pro-Theatre line as the “best TV for watching movies.” He explains, “Toshiba Pro Theatre‘s excellent picture quality is meant to maximize the pleasure of visual entertainment. Movies contain exciting action, impressive music and impactful scenery. Movies are composite art that contain the passions and thoughts of professionals such as movie directors, camera crew, costume designers, art directors, music directors and so on. We strongly believe that only the best picture quality TV can bring out the reality and atmosphere of a scene in the movie.”

ASEAN film directors who attended the ProTheatre launch such as Nguyen Quang Dung from Vietnam, Paul Soriano from the Philippines and Singaporean film director Eric Khoo were in agreement about the excellent picture quality of the Pro Theatre line. As a film maker Khoo says that, “It is important to have screens that show you the truth.”

Toshiba Pro-Theatre TVs will consist of the L9300 series, the top-of-the-line flagship TV which delivers the highest quality Ultra HD image processing, including “Restoration Resolution” to restore  clean, near Ultra HD image quality and “Surface Brilliance Enhancement” that brings images to life; the L4300 Series a TV with Android tht opens up access to a wide array of Android applications and offers a convenient way to browse through content; and the L3300 series with innovative Turbo LED that” boosts brightness and delivers clearer, smoother images with superb resolution” and Detail Booster that enhances resolution and image texture.

“Currently in the Philippines, our market share for TVs consists of only one digit,” admits Shigenori Tokumitsu. “We’d like to increase that to over 10 percent by introducing the Pro Theatre and our other cost-competitive products. We at Toshiba are confident that we make good quality products.”
