Recipe: Fresh Lato Salad

MANILA, Philippines — It is so easy to put together this fresh local salad because the components are readily available.

Even Lato, a kind of seaweed that goes by the English name Sea Grapes, can easily be sourced from the wet market. This salad needs only a few ingredients, and you’re good to go.

Ensaladang Lato

INGREDIENTS:

100 grams fresh Lato, washed and cleaned off with impurities

3 pcs. native tomatoes, deseeded and diced

1 pc. small onion, minced, diced or sliced

Salt and pepper to taste

1/4 tsp. granulated sugar

1/4 cup white vinegar

1-2 salted eggs, peeled and cut into wedges

PROCEDURE:

1. In a small bowl, combine Lato, tomatoes and onion.

2. Mix together salt, pepper, sugar and vinegar. Pour over the tomatoes.

3. Lightly toss. Transfer to serving plates or bowls. Top with salted eggs. Serve.
