Sunny side up

Milky & Sunny is a haven for breakfast foodies.

MANILA, Philippines - Milky & Sunny is the type of restaurant that you would want to have in your neighborhood. It doesn't only provide delicious breakfast dishes in generous servings at affordable price points, but a welcoming, happy feel as well that gives you a good perk-me-up.

Sunlight spills into the place, highlighting interiors that are both charming and comforting. Teal and white walls are accented with quirky paintings, which you can buy.

The restaurants seats 25 to 30 people, which may pose a "challenge" for some on busy weekends when the restaurant gets packed with families living within the vicinity of East Capitol Drive. Patience for a table pays off, though, as one would be deliciously rewarded with the fluffiest pancakes, the heartiest -silogs, and other breakfast fare and comfort food.

Milky & Sunny's dishes reflect its owners' passion for eating. All six owners (who have day jobs in marketing and advertising) are self-confessed breakfast foodies who wanted to have their dream fare on the menu. So don't be surprised to find its Breakfast Big Plates giving you the chance to create your own "dream" breakfast combinations as well: bacon, hotdog, sausage, spam or corned beef (choose three); a choice of toast, bagel, waffle, pancake, garlic rice or plain rice; either a sunny side up or scrambled egg; and hash brown.

Then there's their signature Tapa rice dish (the tapa is made from the recipe of one of its owners' grandmother). It's a filling meal that any -silog lover would enjoy. For the health-conscious, there's the Tapa Salad.

Pancakes, waffles, and French Toast are also found on the menu. We especially loved its Strawberry Cream Cheese Pancakes and Banana King Kong French Toast.

Even Milky & Sunny's non-breakfast dishes have some elements of breakfast in them: the nummy Bacon Tostadas (flour tortillas with salsa, bacon and cheese) and its popular Bacon & Spam Pasta (white sauce pasta topped with Spam and bacon bits).

For vegetarians, there's the Breakfast Enchiladas which has pinto beans, mushrooms and spinach wrapped in tortilla topped with tomato, cheese and sour cream dressing. Pescatorians, meanwhile, would love their Sunny Sardines Pasta.

For those who want to enjoy Milky & Sunny's gastronomic feast at home or on a trip, the restaurant now offers pot luck versions of its best-selling dishes.

It is also open to reservations for birthdays, baby showers and other events. We heard that wedding proposals have also been done in the place and a couple had also booked it for their first anniversary breakfast.

Milky & Sunny is located at 9 East Capitol Drive, Bgy. Kapitolyo, Pasig. For inquiries, you may call 6542049.
