CHEEZEE TIKOY TURON

Ingredients:

1/2       pc.       tikoy, cut into 2-inch x 1/2-inch strips (from a 9-inch whole tikoy, makes about 10 to 12 pieces)

1/2       cup       Baron all-purpose flour

2          pcs.      eggs, beaten

1          cup       brown sugar

1/4       cup       Dari Crème Classic Margarine

10-12   pcss     lumpia wrapper

180-g. pack     Magnolia Cheezee, cut into sticks the same size as the tikoy sticks

2          cups     Magnolia Nutri-oil Palm Olein, for frying

1/2       cup       brown sugar

Procedure:

Dredge tikoy sticks in flour, dip in beaten eggs then roll on brown sugar. Pan-fry tikoy sticks in a non-stick frying pan with margarine until sugar caramelizes but not fully cooked/soft. Remove from heat.

Put a piece of fried tikoy and cheese stick on the center of a lumpia wrapper. Roll and fold sides. Seal. Do the same with the rest of the ingredients.

Heat oil in a pan. Deep fry turon in batches until golden brown. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of brown sugar into the oil and wait for it to melt and caramelize. Dip the fried turon into the oil for the caramelized sugar to stick. Drain oil. Let cool slightly.

Makes 10 to 12 pieces.
