Bowling to the top

Over the past two months the sports-loving and lively members of the Casino Español de Cebu, and their equally-fit and energetic dependents, competed to capture the championship trophy of the 90th anniversary Ten Pin Bowling Tournament crown.

Nine teams of 10 to 15 players got together three evenings each week to show off their lane and gutter skills and prowess.

Several of the teams were revived from the old Casino Español duckpin tournament of decades ago. The teams that joined the tournament included the Top Gun team of captain Vic Torres, The Casino Balls of Sergio Gonzalez, the Acers led by Rita Malagar, and the Reactors of Jerry Seno.

This year, five new teams joined the foray, namely, Bowl Balls captained by Anton Perdices; The G Force of Frederick Yu, Lucky Strike led by Martin Malagar, Jeffrey Dico’s Tiger Look team; and the Yellow Force championed by Sing Solon.

After the preliminary round, four teams pulled away from the pack to enter one of the most hotly-contested bowling tournaments in recent years. The final round ended with dark horse Bowl Balls dominating as tournament champions and the Acers in first runner-up position. Lucky Strike overtook Top Gun to become second runner-up.

During the awarding and fellowship dinner hosted by the club, several individual trophies were handed out. Grace Lozada of Top Gun brought home three trophies for the ladies. These were the highest single, highest triple and highest average.  Frederick Yu of G Force likewise beamed with pride as he received his three trophies for the men’s highest single, highest triple and highest average.

In addition to being the champions, the Bowl Balls, composed of Anton and Mari Paz Perdices, Paco and Monique Jarque, Francis and Angel Llaban, Louie and Lyn Moro, Ato Alvarez, Iñaki Antunez, Eduard Loop, Oliver and Tet Ko, Anabelle and Sony Alo,  also clinched the  highest team triple trophy.
