Bataroush and Persian chicken at Café Mediterranean

Café Mediterranean’s peace plates features a wealth of flavors from a region otherwise marred by violence and unrest.

Topping the list is the Egyptian red lentil soup with herbs and spices. Noodles with lentils is a popular pasta dish featured in medieval Arab cookery manuals in Syria and Baghdad. It is a favorite staple on special occasions.

Also try the batoursh, ground lamb with eggplant and yogurt; and the Persian chicken, a succulent chicken dish from Iran, where spices are rubbed into the skin and perfectly prepared with the key ingredient: time. The Egyptian fish croquettes is an interesting take on fish fillets, pureed with herbs and spices, and served with tarator bi tahini, a sesame seed paste with lemon juice and a few spices as dip. Finally, there’s the meat pie with mashed potatoes.
