Dear Rissa,
Good day! I always read your column in Philippine STAR every Wednesday and I was able to relate to a reader who had an eye-bag problem. You recommended to someone before a product but since I’m still a student, can you please recommend a cheaper one that I can afford? I’m turning 21 this year and I’m looking for the ideal product that is suited for my age. Please help me. Thank you so much and more power.
Lea Maica
Dear Lea Maica,
I’m no longer a student but when I discover effective beauty products at student-friendly prices, I can’t help but be hooked. Not only is my skin happy, but my wallet, too! (That also means extra dough to shop for other things!) Do try Pond’s Flawless White Light Infusing Under-Eye Cream. At only P199, it’s one of the best drugstore beauty buys. This is my staple under-eye cream for daytime (while I use Pond’s Age Miracle Dual Eye Therapy at night). Pond’s Flawless White Light Infusing Under-Eye Cream provides the sensitive areas under your eyes the delicate treatment it needs — it soothes and calms puffy eye bags and at the same time moisturizes and brightens the under-eye area. After washing my face in the morning, it serves also as my under-eye moisturizer to prep my skin before any makeup. Because it’s equipped with multiple UV protection, it shields the under-eye area from the darkening and wrinkling effects of the sun.

Choosing makeup should be simple and fun
Dear Lucy,
I am overwhelmed with all the makeup choices available. If I look for pink lipstick, there are at least a dozen shades. When I look for blush I am asked if my preference is cream or powder. What powder to use? Is concealer a must? What feature must I highlight? They say it can’t be all at once.
I’ve walked in stores in search of new makeup and instead of the whole thing being fun I usually end up just walking away with nothing because I just get so confused. Where do I start? I know the basics, but I have stuck to the same makeup steps for over eight years! I am in a rut and I do not know how to break free.
Mayenne
Dear Mayenne,
The facts:
Makeup is supposed to be fun. It does not have to be complicated.
That you have a choice is great. Do not let that overwhelm you. That is far better than the opposite, no matter how you look at it.
The solution to your makeup woes: ask. Just ask. Don’t be afraid/ashamed/too intimidated to ask. Those ladies at the makeup counters are not ignorant of what they are selling. They know the products, they interact with a lot of different customers, they can guide you until you are able to make your own choices.
You know you are in a rut, you must break free! Update and learn new tricks.
Bobbi Brown once said that makeup is supposed to be simple and fun, it is not rocket science! No one could have said it better. She also always says that makeup is supposed to make you look like your best self, not like someone else. So I am asking you to go to a Bobbi Brown counter ASAP because even if there are dozens of other equally wonderful brands, I got wind of the fact that Bobbi Brown has actually made things even simpler than it already is from her end. Every Bobbi Brown counter now has what they call Makeup Lessons, little bursts of inspired teaching and transfer of skills that will allow every woman to be her own makeup artist. These lessons are complimentary and quick and simplified. You walk away from the counter with products that you will actually use because you have been shown, and taught, how they can make you look like your most gorgeous self. How is that for great service?
It is true, in a sea of choices it is sometimes easier to just pick at random or not pick any at all because of confusion. But this set-up will prove beneficial to you. Customers can choose to have a five-minute lesson or a full-length tutorial, taught one on one. You can even leave with a personalized face chart on how to recreate the look in your own home.
As Bobbi Brown has said: “Every one of my makeup artists has been hand-picked and trained to teach women how to be their own best makeup artists. Come visit one of my counters and learn my best tips and tricks.”
She has many different kinds of Makeup Lessons namely: Instant Pretty, Secret to Perfect Skin, Smoky Eyes, Problem/Solution, Everything Brows, Teenage Beauty, Bridal Beauty, and Special Occasion Beauty.
Have a fun time, Mayenne!

You and eye: Perk up those peepers
Dear Ms. Tingting,
Do you know of a natural alternative to chemical-based products that would brighten the eyes?
Mayla Olsem
Dear Mayla,
Much kinder than chemicals, this eyebright herb solution is safer for perking up your peepers: Make your own infusion by mixing four tablespoons of the fresh plant or two tablespoons of dried herb with two cups of hot water. Allow it to cool, strain, pour into a bottle. Use to moisten cotton pads, then place them over your closed eyelids and relax for 10 minutes. Keep refrigerated and use within a week.
