From summer classroom to fashion runway

MANILA, Philippines - My Talent Co., a workshop program that offers kids, teens and adults alike to train and develop their love for theater, dance and modeling, recently capped off the summer heat with a sizzling fashion show at the atrium of the Eastwood Mall. The students of the teen modeling class unveiled not just the latest collection of retail giant Folded & Hung, but their newfound confidence to strut down the runway.

Under the guidance of model and fashion and beauty columnist Rissa Mananquil, the students of the modeling class learned the basic modeling techniques used by today’s top fashion models, experienced modeling for a real photo shoot, and understood what it takes to be a future supermodel.

“Apart from developing their self-confidence, poise, and discipline, I want to educate young would-be models, most importantly guide them on what it really means to be a model. Many people still cannot believe that modeling is actually hard work. After serving on the board of the Professional Models Association of the Philippines (PMAP) for eight years, with five years as president, this is my own small way of continuing to push for professionalism in the world of modeling,” explains Rissa. “Experience has been the best teacher to my career and I want to share and pass on what I’ve learned from over ten years of modeling.”

Spearheaded by Trumpets Playshop’s founder and STAGES’ president, professional theater actor, producer and director Audie Gemora along with partner Vilma Moredo, My Talent Co. saw a 67 percent increase in enrollment this year. Now on its third year, My Talent Co. continues to enjoy the surge of new students.

“It may have been the hottest summer ever but walking into the Athena building (of Eastwood) is like walking into an oasis. Certainly El Nino has not affected the current crop of My Talent workshop participants. They are a bountiful, fruitful bunch,” shares Audie. “When my partner Vilma Moredo and I launched My Talent three summers ago, all we had was a dream. A dream to put up an exemplary academic school with a comprehensive arts program. Today, every young budding artist who is part of the My Talent summer program is an affirmation of that marvelous vision.”

With classes held at Eastwood, My Talent offers not just fashion modeling but voice, musical theater, piano, guitar, drums, violin, pop concert performance, street dance and hiphop as well.
