F&X brings back the spirit of Woodstock

MANILA, Philippines - The 1960s were a vibrant time to live. In motif during the Counterculture Revolution, which took place at that time, there was a generation of young people looking to set their own standard — and leave their own mark in history. These kids were known as the hippies. As a reaction to the vast political changes and growing violence then, they challenged existing political and social norms and encouraged the gentler ideologies of peace, love, and personal freedom.

Perhaps the best representation of the hippie movement was in Woodstock, 1969. It was undeniably one of the highest points of that decade: a celebration of all of the peace and love ideals in one place. The Woodstock Festival was the largest counterculture event at that time — an expression of the age to live and let live. Across the world, young people took up the slogan “Make Love Not War,” and the Love Generation emerged. Hippie culture spread through various forms — music, film, art, literature, and, of course, fashion.

The more popular styles were bell-bottom pants, vests, tie-dyed garments, peasant blouses, and long, full skirts in brightly colored fabrics. Men and women favored accessories such as head scarves, headbands and long necklaces; and adornments such as flowers and beads.

The year that was 1969 was the year when love was the answer.

More than 20 years hence, F&X brings you its latest collection —“The Love Collection” — inspired by an era that created an entire look all its own.

Today, F&X brings back to life the spirit of the Woodstock days with a renewed sense of freshness — light and casual, no frills. Staying true to the hippie ideals of love, peace and freedom, the collection highlights powdery pastel colors in gentle shades of ivory, beige, pink, lavender, and turquoise. Hark back to the Flower Power days and wear floral prints in flowing fabrics and feminine shapes. It is also the perfect season to be wearing those short halter summer dresses, tube dresses or maxi dresses. Spend your beach days in shorts and Capri pants with various patterns and pair them with light and airy voile tops. In addition to these, F&X offers swimsuits and flip-flops to match your everyday summer mood.

For the chaps, offbeat color combinations, contemporary florals, surf prints, beach scenes, Hawaiian tropical views, palm trees, and other images of summer make up the collection. Much like the days when friends, with guitars in tow, gathered out on the road in their classic VW bus with hand-painted inscriptions and drawings, the collection sends out a vintage vibe with the use of images from washed-out photographs, vintage posters, university monograms, and vintage American sports icons and motor riders. Board shorts, and checkered and floral walking shorts complete the getup for that preppy and sporty college-boy-look.

F&X stores are located in Robinsons Place Manila Midtown Wing, SM Mall of Asia, Greenbelt 5, SM City Cebu North Wing, TriNoma, and the newly opened store in SM North-EDSA Annex.
