MANILA, Philippines - Sassa Jimenez, after entering the fashion scene with a bold and edgy splash last year, is set to wow audiences and critics again at this year’s Philippine Fashion Week with a stunning new collection. Entitled “Revelation,” the collection showcases pieces that highlight the body’s movement through clever fabric choices and construction. Whether it’s the swishing of a skirt or the bouncing-off of light, each piece is created to perfectly fit a woman’s frame.
The words “polished” and “sleek” perfectly describe this particular collection. Inspired by style icon Dita Von Teese and the women of the Forties, Jimenez has created the classic-with-a-twist look with her current pieces. Each dress is a creation of feminine simplicity, punctuated with hints of edgy sophistication that project a look of elegance and refinement still relevant in fashion’s ever-changing landscape. With Revelation, it’s the subtle but meticulous details that make all the difference.
“It’s all about looking put-together for any occasion,” Jimenez says. “I wanted to create something that was fresh and unique yet classic. I wanted something that would fit well and look good from every angle. Whether it’s for a girls’ night out or a formal occasion, clients will be able to wear these dresses and look up-to-date, and still be able to wear the same thing in the future without looking out of place.”
More than projecting a certain look, however, Revelation is a journey of self-discovery. True to its name, the collection is about revealing another aspect of the wearer.
“Women have an image of themselves, and they like to stay within the confines of this picture,” muses Jimenez. “They get stuck in their comfort zone, but Revelation is all about fearlessness. It’s about stepping into a dress you wouldn’t normally wear, looking at yourself in the mirror and saying, ‘Wow! I didn’t know I could look good in something like this!’”
She sums it up thus: “Fashion isn’t about using clothes to cover up who you really are; it’s about wearing something that brings out your many dimensions, and being secure in all these aspects of yourself. I hope that Revelation will encourage women to make that switch in mentality.”
Sassa Jimenez will show Revelation at Philippine Fashion Week on Sunday, May 31, 6 p.m. at SMX Convention Center Function Rooms 2 and 3.
