Keeping feet neat

Dear Mary,

My girlfriend has beautiful feet, smooth and without any blemishes. How can I improve the looks of my feet, especially now that every one wears sandals and slip-ons?

Very Happy Pete

The worst thing is to wear shoes that are tight or uncomfortable. These will surely give you corns and calluses, which are so unsightly. Get rid of the corns with Dr. Scholl’s corn removers and scrub your feet while bathing, then finish the treatment by applying skin lotion. Be sure to cut your toenails and keep them neat.

For Flaky, Kiddie Skin
Dear Lucy,

I have a big problem with my son’s skin – it’s so sensitive, it flakes a lot. He has this skin problem at the back of his lower arms and on both sides of his lap. I consulted two dermatologists on this, and they had different diagnoses. One said it was dermatitis while the other said it was skin asthma. Both of them treated my son for a while, but his condition keeps on recurring. Could you recommend a dermatologist who is good at analyzing skin problems and not so expensive?

Worried Mother

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Oilatum cream (which is locally

available at Mercury Drug) and Aveeno skin products (available abroad, perhaps you can ask a friend or relative to bring it in for you). A lot of mothers I know use that on their children who have sensitive skin, with very good results. Before using it though, I strongly advise you to consult your child’s doctor/dermatologist.

What’s Tops With Topsiders
Dear Tingting,

Re topsiders – aren’t these better worn without socks and with beige cargo pants? When are ankle socks worn? What about cuffed socks?

Andie

If you’re a short person with thick legs, socks will cut your figure and you’ll look squat. Your choice of socks will actually depend also on your activity.

I like ankle socks. They can be worn for golf with a long skirt, shorts or pants. They’re quite versatile. It’s the same with cuffed socks – except that again, they can make your short legs appear shorter.
