Skipping to the beat of Latin tango in Philippine shores

MANILA, Philippines - Spurred by his passion for art, yearning for perfection and love of country, Ely Damasin dared to challenge himself and conceptualized an event that would showcase the world’s most acclaimed Argentine Tango talents. Hence, Tango Manila officially launched the three-part Asia Pacific Tango festival 2012, highlighted by a Tango Congress, the Open Pacific Asia Tango Championship, and a performance show by local and international tangco acts produced and directed by Damasin himself. His love and appreciation for Tango has moved him to spearhead, this year’s biggest dance festival in our country.

Featured in the event were some of the world’s most talented and sought-after tango stars, namely Fernanda Ghi and Guillermo Merlo who were acclaimed as the Argentine Tango Champions in 1999; Laila and Leandro Oliver, who remain among the world’s most sought-after Argentine Tangco couple; and Japanese couple, Hiroshi and Kyoko Yamao, who were named World Champions of Tango Salon 2009.
