MANILA, Philippines - As part of its avowed objective to preserve and protect the legacy of artist Juvenal Sanso, Fundacion Sanso urges the public to ensure that the provenance of the artworks they purchase are established firmly.
With the spate of art forgeries in the international and local art market, this could also happen here. In this regard, Fundacion Sanso, the institution that runs Museo Sanso, suggests that collectors secure a certificate of authenticity from Museo Sanso or Sanso’s duly accredited gallery, Galerie Joaquin.
“Aside from the technique, the composition, the materials used, the important thing in issuing an authenticity for a painting is the provenance. If it comes from an unreliable or unverified source then there could be doubt. It is the right of the buyer to know who that source or provenance is,” said Gilda Salita, the director of Fundacion Sanso. An authentication is also one way to ensure that the artwork is not stolen property.
The Fundacion Sanso director added, “Protecting collectors is one of the reasons why Fundacion Sanso was established. We can only salute Mr. Sanso for what he has done in helping set up Fundacion Sanso.” Sanso made sure that Museo Sanso’s team has the background, the knowledge and expertise to acknowledge, accredit and authenticate his artworks.
