MANILA, Philippines - The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) presents “Daloy: A continuing Vision of a Center, ” which opens on Sept. 18, 6 p.m., at the CCP Main Gallery and other satellite venues. The show runs until Nov. 8.
“Daloy” goes beyond the chronicling of CCP’s 40 years. It is a reflective presentation of a Filipino vision of a cultural center — a dream sought even before the initiative and support of Imelda Marcos; and a development that continues to evolve and find fruition at present.
The CCP is recognized as the center for artistic excellence and the transformative potential of the arts for cultural development and the upliftment of communities.
“Daloy” brings to light the spirit and aspirations behind these endeavors, and aims to invoke a people’s continuing reclamation of a progressive vision of a center. Graphics, artworks, archival materials and artifacts, along with site-specific installation and multimedia platforms will be the means to portray this narrative.
Leading the curatorial work for this project are CCP Thirteen Artist awardees Don M. Salubaybay and Claro Ramirez Jr. as head curator and multimedia curator, respectively. Max Santiago will design the graphics, while Mary Ann Pernia will provide the writing and research.
New works requested for “Daloy” will be provided by CCP Thirteen Artists awardee Gerardo Leonardo, who will do the site-specific installations at the fourth floor atriums. Students of the Philippine High School for the Arts will also assist Salubayba in a “Pachinko” installation at the third floor escalator side. Carlos Celdran will also create an exclusive CCP walk to guide viewers through the center’s most significant sites.
