Dominic Rubio at SM Art Center

MANILA, Philippines - Dominic Rubio revisits one of the premier cities of Old Asia with a rich history, culture and tradition in “Maynila” which opens on Aug. 5 at SM Art Center, fourth floor, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City.

The show runs until Aug. 18.

The exhibit features 40 paintings that elicit the nostalgia around the romantic story of this oriental city.

Irma Lacorte at Galleria Duemila

Irma Lacorte merges symbolic figuration and abstraction in her free-flowing diagrams and scapes in “Transit Story” which is on view until Aug. 30 at Galleria Duemila, 210 Loring St., Pasay City.

The works tackle the slippery nature of transits — from raw materials to packaged materials, from waste materials into art materials, among others.

Maxine Syjuco at Mag:net Ayala

Maxine Syjuco presents visual interpretations of poems from her first poetry book A Secret Life in “A Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, which opens tomorrow, 7 p.m. at Mag:net Gallery Ayala, ground floor, The Columns Bldg., Ayala Ave. corner Gil Puyat Ave., Makati City. The show runs until Aug. 31.

The opening night features live performances from the Electric Underground Collective. Featured performers include Cesare A.X. Syjuco, Alfred Yuson, Trix Syjuco, Eghai Roxas, Ian Madrigal, Mitch Garcia, Lirio Salvador, Yanna Verbo Acosta, Mannet Villariba, and others.

“People often ask me to explain my poems. Instead of explaining, I’m now asking them to visit the gallery to ‘see’ my poems — to witness and experience them in a vivid, visual form,” Maxine explains.

Mikko Sison at Blanc Makati

Mikko Sison walks viewers through areas of his sanctuary in “3 Hours to Midnight,” which is on view until Aug. 7 at Blanc Makati, Crown Tower, 107 H.V. dela Costa St., Salcedo Village, Makati City.

The canvases mirror Sison’s interiors in spontaneous brushworks.

The rooms, sections, features and aspects of his home are portrayed and rendered in a brightly hued palette.
