Japanese animator conducts workshop

The Japan Foundation, Manila (JFM), in cooperation with the Animation Council of the Philippines (ACPI), and the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde School of Design and Acts, treated budding and professional animators, and anime enthusiasts to a master class by Japanese animation artist, Taku Furukawa held recently the eighth floor, activity area of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, School of Design and Arts Campus, 950 P. Ocampo Street, Malate, Manila.

Taku Furukawa’s master class included a lecture and film screening. It was an activity under the “Animahenasyon 2008: 2nd Pinoy Animation Festival.”

Furukawa’s films have won numerous prizes around the world including the special jury prize at Annecy. He has published cartoon collections, and drawn for different Japanese publications and children’s picture books, and held several one-man exhibitions in various art galleries in Japan.

Moreover, Furukawa has produced a large body of animated ads and shorts for Minna no Uta, a long-running NHK children’s TV program. Takun-Films, a DVD collection of his complete works until 1995, was issued by Anido in 1998. This year, Furukawa was awarded the Purple Ribbon for lifetime achievement by the Prime Minister.
