The Black Shop is Manila’s premier shop for women executives who want that chic, sophisticated but still properly corporate look. After more than a decade of success in this arena, TBS’ head Tina Ocampo hit on an idea — why not make stylish office uniforms and give corporations a chance to have that “Black Shop” look?
Ocampo took the advice of two American image experts. One is from international managing director Emile Rassam who writes, “Uniforms should not only be comfortable, they should continue to look great after extensive wearing and washing... Attention to fabric blends and ‘breathability’ in construction is of great importance.”
Rassam suggests that uniform planners start their designs after the interiors of their buildings or offices are finished. The uniform should evoke the company’s image and in this regard, it might be wiser to get the marketing department’s opinion.
Kass Graham, designer of Sally Fourmy, shares, “There is a trend towards more retail-inspired dressing, civilian-type fabrics.” She advises corporations to choose uniforms that are classical and have timeless silhouettes.
