She was always shy and reserved especially in the company of strangers. Though given enough time, she would warm up towards conversations full of life and enjoyment. If you happened to know her much earlier in life, I’m sure you would laugh with her until you cried. Sometimes, just by looking eye to eye at her, she would send you into a laughing frenzy.
Having enjoyed her youth to the fullest, she entered a different world with Joey, her husband of 23 years. Joey is another firstborn in the Concepcion clan and he knew whom he wanted for a wife. Determined and full of wit and imagination, he won Marissa’s heart...and so they became complete.
They are blessed with four beautiful children. You cannot help but notice a little of Joey and Marissa in every single one of them. They enjoy fun-filled moments in travel. Vacations are sacred to this clan, as they know it’s their moment of making their relationship as a family strong.
Her laurels rest in giving her family the most importance and attention. She is happy and humble to take the backstage role and would rather be supportive to Joey. She herself is enthusiastic about her husband’s dreams and ideals, especially the ongoing "Go Negosyo" campaign because it inspires the hearts of many to go for hills and mountains to climb, if only to have a taste of succeeding for the greater good of many.
Marissa chooses to lead her life as an example to her children. Though she moves quietly amongst those in need, either through people or organizations, her lamp does not go off at night. She is actively involved with the Laura Vicuña Foundation which cares for children orphaned or abandoned. She has enjoyed visits with the nuns who have dedicated their lives for the love of these children. Marissa is also happy to support the cause of Gawad Kalinga, whose foundation involves the giver in every way. Here, together with her family, she helps build homes in a community they have chosen as their beneficiary. Marissa silently gives of herself. Kind and tenderhearted, she is known for her thoughtfulness and hospitality.
In her lovely home, she gathers family and friends for lunches and dinners. Old memories, funny childhood stories, interesting blends of conversation linger around her home.
Marissa lives life and loves well. She fills her days with purpose, knowing she pleases Someone greater than herself.
