Support the AFP's Kalayaan sa Barangay projects

- Maricel Naseto, Davao City -

MANILA, Philippines - It is undeniable that in far flung areas many villagers struggle to sell their crops and livestock due to transportation problem. Not only that, many of our brothers and sisters are suffering from health problems due to the absence of health workers, since there are no health centers in the barangays, and no potable water for them to drink.

There are many problems in far flung areas that most villagers encounter. There is also the presence of the New People’s Army who are sometimes sabotaging their means of living. I don’t care about the New People’s Army, I am more concerned for those ordinary people who live miles away from urban areas, who are waiting to be noticed by the government. They want development, they can’t make it on their own, they need help from government and other organizations.

Last Dec. 28 I visited my elementary friend, now a Grade 5 teacher, in Banay-Banay, Davao Oriental. She needs to walk for hours from her house before reaching the school. Her class shares a classroom with Grade 6 pupils. Her story is not unusual because we hear a lot of such situations which sadden us. I want to help but I don’t have the means.

I told her about what I heard about the “Kalayaan sa Barangay Program (KBP)” of the Armed Forces of the Philippines which facilitates the building of schools, health centers, farm-to-market roads in far flung areas. I hope the AFP’s Kalayaan sa Barangay Program will reach their barangay.

Let us support these community development projects of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in our communities and share the information to the people we meet.

I am hopeful that the AFP will be successful this year in their implementation of the Kalayaan sa Barangay Program especially here in Mindanao.
