Stop NPA recruitment

- Jaylord B. Camus, Kamagong, San Antonio, Makati City -

MANILA, Philippines - With the NPAs intensified recruitment according to the military, not only should the AFP and PNP step up their anti-NPA recruitment activities but also call on the people to better understand the threat.

At present we see that soldiers conduct peace and development programs in different communities which have helped drive away insurgency. But more than this, the people should be made aware that this coming surge of intensified recruitment is no joke.

More detailed information on the various illegal activities of the CPP-NPA should be made available to the public, to all sectors of society. For not only the youth are lured, even straight-forward professionals fall for the NPA and may lead double lives.

We have had much successes in decreasing the strength of the communists and we cannot afford to bring them back and to sow terror and violence just as they did some years back.

On the other hand, law enforcement agencies and the military should seek other approaches and strategies to put a stop to NPA recruitment. Peace and development initiatives were successful but the NPAs have surely something up in their sleeves and the government must be better prepared for it. The common desire to lick the NPA must fire up everyone’s determination to make it happen.
