Councilor wounded in Makati ambush

MANILA, Philippines — A barangay councilor was wounded in an ambush in Makati yesterday morning.
Mayor Nancy Binay condemned the attack on John Yland de Ocampo, as she ordered the Makati city police to intensify manhunt operations.
De Ocampo was shot at 8:05 a.m. by an unidentified gunman at the corner of Novaliches and Zapote streets in Barangay Olympia, according to the Southern Police District.
SPD investigators are reviewing closed-circuit television footages from residential and commercial establishments for leads on the suspect’s identity.
“We urgently call upon the community, anyone who witnessed the crime, possesses dashcam recordings or holds vital information to step forward and report immediately to the nearest police station,” the SPD said in a statement.
Binay directed the city police to strengthen the security measures in Sta. Cruz and adjacent barangays.
“To the family of councilor De Ocampo and the people of Barangay Sta. Cruz, you are not alone. We will do everything we can to achieve justice,” Binay said in a statement.
