MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau reported that Tropical Cyclone “Huaning,” which developed into a tropical depression, is expected to move north and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Monday, August 18.

As of 4 a.m. on Monday, August 18, PAGASA reported that the center of the tropical depression was located approximately 520 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

It is currently moving north northwestward at 10 kph and is expected to move generally northward before turning north-northeastward towards the Ryukyu Islands, Japan, on the morning of Tuesday, August 19.

According to the PAGASA, "Huaning" is likely to exit the PAR between late Monday evening and Tuesday morning.

No tropical cyclone wind signals have been hoisted and the weather disturbance is not expected to affect the country within the next 48 hours directly.

However, mariners of small vessels are advised to take precautionary measures due to up to moderate seas over the seaboards of Batanes and the northern and western seaboards of several provinces in Luzon, including Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro and Palawan.

The trough of the LPA may also bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms to the Ilocos Region, Zambales and Bataan.

PAGASA warned residents of these areas of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to, at times, heavy rains.

Huaning had developed into a tropical depression at 2 a.m. on Monday.

Meanwhile, the other LPA monitored west of the Philippines outside PAR has developed into a tropical depression on Sunday evening.

Habagat. The southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” may also bring rains to parts of Southern Luzon, according to the state weather bureau.

Palawan may expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the habagat.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country may also expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
