FBI joins investigation of Thomas Markle

MANILA, Philippines — The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has joined the probe into allegations that Thomas Markle, father of Meghan, duchess of Sussex, possessed images of child sexual abuse materials found at his former house in Cebu, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said yesterday.
PNP spokesman Col. Allen Rae Co said the FBI has reached out to Philippine investigators about the images found on Markle’s gadgets.
“The FBI expressed readiness to extend assistance if we need its support in the course of the investigation,” Co told reporters in a message on Viber.
Markle’s gadgets such as mobile phones and computers were turned over to the Women and Children Protection Center. These will be subjected to forensic examination.
“We welcome this expression of cooperation and will coordinate with the FBI through proper legal and diplomatic channels as the investigation progresses,” Co said.
If there is evidence of wrongdoing, Co said the PNP would file criminal cases against Markle.
Police said they are not discounting the possibility that some of the victims of sexual abuse are Filipinos.
