San Lazaro Hospital reports 174 cases of influenza-like illness

MANILA, Philippines — The San Lazaro Hospital (SLH) in Manila has reported 174 cases of influenza-like illness or ILI from Jan. 1 to Oct. 6.
According to the hospital, ILI is a group of illnesses with common symptoms that include fever, cough, sore throat, colds, body aches and headaches.
“Stay at home when not feeling well and seek medical attention for worsening symptoms,” the SLH said.
Health experts are reminding the public to avail themselves of vaccines as a form of protection against flu.
Apart from leptospirosis, dengue and water- and food-borne diseases, ILI is common during the rainy season and is influenced by environmental conditions.
“Let’s protect ourselves and our families by drinking safe water, eating properly cooked food, washing our hands regularly, avoiding floodwater, preventing mosquito bites and seeking medical care when symptoms worsen. Stay safe this rainy season,” the SLH said.
The Department of Health earlier said it has recorded 99,037 ILI cases nationwide this year.
The most affected age group is children aged five to 14 years.
