SierraCol chair joins Prime Infrastructure board

MANILA, Philippines — The chairman of SierraCol Energy Ltd., Colombia’s largest independent oil and gas exploration firm, is reinforcing Prime Infrastructure Capital Inc.’s global expansion drive with his appointment to its board of directors.
Prime Infra said SierraCol chairman Tony Hayward has joined the board, about five months after the Razon-led company acquired the Colombian oil giant.
Hayward, who will continue to lead SierraCol, is expected to help Prime Infra advance its strategic priorities in the Philippines and other select international markets.
“We welcome Tony to the board,” Prime Infra chairman Enrique Razon Jr. said in a statement yesterday.
“His decades of experience across the global energy industry, particularly in upstream and international markets, will bring valuable perspective as we expand our portfolio, integrate new platforms such as SierraCol, and pursue opportunities that can create long-term value for Prime Infra,” Razon added.
A seasoned global energy executive, Hayward has led SierraCol since its establishment in 2020.
Before joining SierraCol, he served as group chief executive of BP p.l.c., a British multinational oil and gas company, from 2007 to 2010.
He later served as chairman of Swiss diversified natural resources company Glencore from 2013 to 2021.
Hayward currently serves as chairman of several private companies and brings decades of experience spanning the global energy and natural resources sectors.
“Prime Infra has built a strong track record in developing and operating critical infrastructure, and I look forward to contributing my experience as the company pursues further growth across the energy sector and beyond,” Hayward said.
In March, Prime Infra acquired SierraCol from private equity group Carlyle, a move analysts said could help the Philippines reduce its reliance on oil-producing countries in the Middle East.
SierraCol accounts for around 10 percent of Colombia’s gross oil output. It also operates two giant oil fields, which produce high-quality crude and are connected to key infrastructure and markets.
