MANILA, Philippines — Up to 2.2 tons of various kinds of illegal substances with a combined value of P12.34 billion were destroyed in Trece Martires, Cavite yesterday.

The destruction of the illegal drugs, which were seized in separate anti-narcotics operations, was done through thermal decomposition at the Integrated Waste Management Inc. in Barangay Aguado.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said among the items incinerated were 2,224.67 kilos of shabu, marijuana, cocaine, Ecstasy tablets and expired medicines.

PDEA chief Isagani Nerez said it was the largest volume of illegal drugs destroyed this year.

“The destruction ensures that these substances can no longer return to the illegal drug market or pose a threat to our communities,” Nerez said.
