BI nabs another ‘fake Pinoy’

MANILA, Philippines — A 33-year-old Chinese who misrepresented herself as a Filipino citizen was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1, the Bureau of Immigration announced.
The BI said the Chinese, identified only as Lin, was apprehended on Aug. 7 following her arrival from China.
Operatives from the BI intelligence division said the foreigner uses a Filipino identity, which turned out to be fake.
The BI said the foreigner’s real identity was confirmed through her Chinese passport bearing her Chinese name.
Lin was apprehended for misrepresentation, fraud and for being an undesirable foreign national.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado commended the BI operatives for their intelligence work and swift action.
“Pretending to be Filipino is not a minor immigration violation – it is a serious threat to the integrity of our identity and government systems. Our agents will continue to hunt down foreign nationals who attempt to manipulate or abuse these systems. If you falsely claim to be Filipino, we will find you, expose the deception and hold you accountable under Philippine law,” Viado said.
