Satisfaction with Marcos Jr. admin up in Q2 – SWS

MANILA, Philippines —  Public satisfaction with President Marcos’ administration improved in the second quarter of the year, according to the latest survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations.

The SWS poll, conducted from June 20 to 29, showed 42 percent of the respondents were satisfied with the performance of the current administration.

It went up 10 points from the 32 percent it obtained in a similar survey in March.

Dissatisfaction with the national government decreased from 46 percent to 40 percent while undecided respondents dropped from 21 percent to 17 percent.

This resulted in a +1 net satisfaction rating, classified as “neutral” by SWS. It improved from a “poor” -13 in the previous poll.

SWS classifies net satisfaction ratings of at least +70 as “excellent,” +50 to +69 “very good,” +30 to +49 “good,” +10 to +29 “moderate,” +9 to -9 “neutral,” -10 to -29 “poor,” -30 to -49 “bad,” -50 to -69 “very bad” and -70 and below “execrable.”

The numbers are obtained by subtracting those who said they were dissatisfied from those who were satisfied with the performance of the Marcos administration.

According to the SWS, net satisfaction with the Marcos administration improved across geographic areas.

It was highest among those in Luzon at +13 (from zero), followed by the Visayas at +5 (from -23), Metro Manila at -11 (from -23) and Mindanao at -17 (from -27).

The Marcos government obtained “very good” net satisfaction on four issues, including providing basic education (+68), improving the quality of education (+58), helping the poor (+52) and creating policies that generate job opportunities (+51).

It had a “good” net satisfaction rating in terms of developing science and technology (+49), implementing housing programs (+48), ensuring food security (+41), defending Philippine sovereignty (+35) and ensuring an efficient public transportation (+33).

These were followed by “moderate” ratings in terms of ensuring that no family goes hungry (+26), preparing for climate change (+24) and taking care of Filipinos in conflict-affected countries (+15).

The Marcos administration obtained “neutral” ratings on issues regarding rising oil prices (zero), ensuring that oil companies do not take advantage of oil prices (-6) and fighting crimes that victimize ordinary citizens (-8).

More respondents said they were dissatisfied than satisfied with the government in fighting inflation (-12) and eradicating graft and corruption (-14).
