Road projects worth P4.8M in Ronda

CEBU, Philippines — Three community infrastructure projects worth more than P4.8 million have been completed and formally turned over to barangays in the Municipality of Ronda under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-7’s KALAHI-CIDSS Kapangyarihan at Kaunlaran–Community-Driven Development (KKB-CDD) program.

The newly completed road concreting projects were turned over in July to Barangays Vive, Libo-o, and Cansayahon as part of the five approved KKB-CDD sub-projects being implemented in the municipality.

The projects include a P1.56-million road concreting project in Barangay Vive, a P1.59-million project in Barangay Libo-o, and a P1.66-million project in Barangay Cansayahon.

According to DSWD-7, the projects aim to improve accessibility and mobility for residents by providing safer and more reliable roads that will facilitate the transport of agricultural products, improve access to basic services, and strengthen emergency response, particularly during disasters and extreme weather conditions.

It said that the concrete roads also provide better connectivity to neighboring barangays and municipalities.

Before the projects were implemented, residents had to traverse steep and unstable roads that became hazardous for motorists during heavy rains. With the completion of the road concreting works, residents can now travel more safely and efficiently throughout the year.

The projects were completed through the collective efforts of community volunteers, who dedicated more than a month to the construction and implementation of the sub-projects.

DSWD-7 added that the successful completion of the projects highlights the effectiveness of the Community-Driven Development (CDD) approach, which enables communities to identify, plan, implement, and manage projects that address their priority needs.

Following the turnover ceremony, the operation and maintenance of the completed infrastructure were formally transferred to the local government unit, barangay officials, women’s groups, farmers’ associations, and community volunteers to ensure the sustainability of the projects.

Meanwhile, two more KKB-CDD sub-projects in Ronda are scheduled for turnover this August. These include another road concreting project in Barangay Butong and a health station in Barangay Langin to further improve the municipality’s infrastructure and access to essential services. — (FREEMAN)
