NIA taps excess Bustos Dam water

MALOLOS CITY, Bulacan, Philippines — The National Irrigation Administration made use of the water released from Bustos Dam to irrigate its north and south canals yesterday.
Bustos Dam started releasing water on Sunday after its water level reached 15.9 meters or just 10 centimeters below the spilling level.
Enrique Carlos, Bulacan irrigation management office manager, said the NIA is releasing four cubic meters of water to the north and south main canals using the volume released by the dam.
Carlos said the south canal supplies water for rice lands in Bulakan and Plaridel towns while the north canal delivers to the farms in Baliwag and Pulilan towns in Bulacan as well as San Luis and Candaba towns in Pampanga.
The Bulacan agriculture office said the province targets to plant rice crops on 34,300 hectares of land.
