MANILA, Philippines (Updated 12:45 p.m.) — The country's overall inflation eased to 6.4% in June 2026 from 6.8% in May, according to the latest report from the Philippine Statistics Authority.

The slowdown was primarily driven by the slower annual increase in the indices of transport (12.8%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (5.2%), furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (3.7%).

This was compared to the annual increases in these indices in May, which were at 16.2%, 5.7%, and 3.9%, respectively.

The easing of overall inflation brought the Philippines' average inflation rate to 4.8% for the January-to-June period, the PSA said.

In terms of contribution to overall inflation, the food and non-alcoholic beverages group had the largest share at 31.4%.

It was followed by housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels with a 26% share, and transport with an 18.4% share.

Food inflation

The PSA also reported that the country's food inflation rate slowed to 5.4% from 5.8% in May.

It accounted for 29.6% of overall inflation.

Among the factors behind the lower food inflation were the faster annual decline in the index of meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals, which went down to 4.2% from 2.5% in May.

The slower annual increases in the indices of fish and other seafood, which eased from 8.8% to 7.8% in June, and rice, which was at 15% in June compared to 15.6% in the previous month, also contributed to the slowdown in food inflation.

The three main contributors to food inflation were cereals and cereal products, including rice, corn, flour, bread and other bakery products, pasta products and other cereals, with a 68.4% share; fish and other seafood with a 25.1% share; and vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses with a 14.6% share.

In the regions

Meanwhile, the inflation rate in the National Capital Region (NCR) also slowed to 4.9% in June from 5% in May.

"The lower inflation rate in NCR was mainly influenced by the slower annual increase in the transport index at 8% in June 2026 from 11.4% in the previous month," PSA said.

Likewise, the inflation rate in areas outside NCR also eased to 6.7% in June 2026 compared to 7.1% in May.
