MALOLOS, Bulacan, Philippines — Metro Manila residents may experience water service interruptions as Angat Dam’s water elevation has continued to recede.

The dam’s water level yesterday reached 158.75 meters, below the critical level of 160 meters.

“We are now reviewing the current situation and the weather forecast,” National Water Resources Board executive director Sevillo David Jr. told The STAR.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, Super Typhoon Bavi may enter the Philippine area of responsibility on July 8, but the extreme heat raised alarm of a possible water shortage.

In 2019, rotational water service interruptions were implemented in Metro Manila and irrigation supplies were halted in Bulacan and parts of Pampanga after Angat Dam’s water elevation fell below its critical level.
