Road closures, reroutes in Manila due to INC rally on July 2

MANILA, Philippines — Commuters and motorists are advised to plan their routes as several major thoroughfares in the city of Manila will be affected on Thursday, July 2, due to the rally by the religious sect Iglesia ni Cristo (INC).
The group will hold its rally at Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila after the Quezon City local government recalled its permit to rally in EDSA.
As of 10 a.m., the Manila Public Information Office said that there are an estimated 1,000 individuals who attended the rally.
The following areas are entirely closed to traffic:
1. CRB Mendiola Area
- C.M. Recto Avenue: Stretch from Nicanor Reyes Street to Mendiola Street
- Legarda Street: Stretch from Figueras Street to San Rafael Street.
2. Liwasang Bonifacio Area
- Magallanes Drive: Stretch from Jones Bridge to MacArthur Bridge.
3. Ayala Bridge Area
- Ayala Bridge: Entirely closed to vehicular traffic.
- Ayala Boulevard (Eastbound): Stretch from San Marcelino Street to Romualdez Street
To minimize gridlock, motorists are strictly advised to follow these alternative routes:
If traversing the CRB Mendiola area:
- From Quezon Blvd / C.M. Recto Ave (bound for Mendiola): Turn left on Nicanor Reyes Street to your destination.
- From Sta. Mesa through Legarda St (bound for C.M. Recto): Turn right on Figueras Street, head straight to Earnshaw Street, then turn left on Sergio H. Loyola Street.
- From P. Casal Street (bound for Mendiola): Turn left on San Rafael Street, go straight to Bilibid Viejo Street toward Quezon Boulevard.
If traversing the Liwasang Bonifacio Area:
- From P. Burgos Avenue (Northbound, bound for Magallanes Drive): Go straight ahead to Jones Bridge.
- From C. Muñoz Street: Utilize P. Burgos Avenue to reach your destination.
- From MacArthur Bridge (bound for Magallanes Drive): Head straight to P. Burgos Avenue (Southbound lane).
If traversing the Ayala Bridge Area:
- From Romualdez Street: Turn left on Ayala Boulevard, then right on Taft Avenue OR go straight to Natividad Lopez Street, turn right on A. Villegas Street, and left on C. Muñoz Street.
- From San Marcelino Street: Turn right on Ayala Boulevard, then right on Taft Avenue or proceed straight along San Marcelino Street and turn left on U.N. Avenue.
- From Ayala Boulevard (Eastbound): Turn left on Natividad Lopez Street.
- From Carlos Palanca Street: Turn left on P. Casal Street.
- From P. Casal Street: Turn right on Carlos Palanca Street.
The protest is in support of Sen. Rodante Marcoleta, amid looming plunder charges due to campaign donations during the elections.
In response, the INC conducted a surprise protest in EDSA on June 30 without a permit.
They were granted a permit in EDSA on July 1. However, the Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety recalled the group’s permit to rally on July 2, citing the burdens caused by the rally to the people.
