P12 million pilfered fuel seized in Navotas

MANILA, Philippines — Pilfered petroleum products and equipment worth P12 million were intercepted in Navotas City on Monday night.
Ten men were arrested by the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) while conducting “paihi” oil pilferage operation in Barangay Tanza II.
CIDG director Maj. Gen. Robert Alexander Morico II said about 80 drums of diesel, a fuel tanker, a truck and two motor boats were seized.
Police said the suspects siphoned fuel from the motor boats, which they transferred to the tanker truck.
The suspects were taken into custody after they failed to present a permit from the Department of Energy.
Cases for violation of Batas Pambansa 33 as amended by Presidential Decree 1865, which defines and penalizes illegal trading, adulteration, underdelivery and hoarding of petroleum products, are being readied against the suspects.
Morico said pilfered fuel is hazardous and prone to high fires and explosions.
“The CIDG assures the public that it is committed in enforcing laws and remains relentless in its campaign against all forms of illegal activities” he said.
