MANILA, Philippines — Chanelle Avaricio and Daniella Uy will carry the Philippine flag almost single-handedly as they take on a formidable field bannered by China LPGA Tour standouts and some of Asia’s brightest emerging talents in the Max Caihong Qingdao Women’s Open. The tournament gets underway Thursday at Qingdao Huashan International Country Club in Shandong, China.

The Filipina duo was originally expected to be joined by Yvon Bisera, who recently delivered an impressive runner-up finish in the Singapore Ladies Masters. However, visa complications forced Bisera to withdraw from the CNY800,000, 54-hole championship, leaving Avaricio and Uy to spearhead the country’s campaign.

Despite the setback, both players head into the tournament eager to make their presence felt against a field stacked with proven winners and rising stars from across the region.

Avaricio tees off at 1:08 p.m. on No. 10 alongside Chinese amateur Yu Zeng and seasoned Thai campaigner Wad Phaewchimplee. The Ladies Philippine Golf Tour standout will look to capitalize on her experience and steady form as she seeks a strong opening-round performance.

Uy, meanwhile, kicks off her bid at 12:57 p.m. from the first tee, where she is paired with China’s Weiyi Yan and Thailand’s Tunrada Piddon. Known for her consistency and fighting spirit, Uy hopes to gain early momentum on a course expected to test both precision and patience.

Heading the field is China’s Xiang Sui, who enters the week brimming with confidence after ending a three-year title drought with a victory over Bisera in the Singapore Ladies Masters earlier this month. The 27-year-old ace now sets her sights on a second straight title as she leads a strong home contingent seeking to dominate on familiar turf.

Sui launches her campaign at 12:02 p.m. from No. 1 in the company of Chinese amateur Zixin Ni and Thailand’s Kan Bunnabodee.

With homegrown Chinese stars eager to shine and several rising regional talents chasing valuable ranking points and career momentum, Avaricio and Uy face a stern challenge. But the Filipino pair will be determined to rise to the occasion and contend for honors in one of the China LPGA Tour’s key events of the season.
