Ginebra seeks title clincher vs TNT tonight
CEBU, Philippines — The Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings shoot for the title clincher against the TNT Tropang 5G in Game 6 of the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup Finals today (Sunday, June 14) at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
Fueled by the career-high 54 points of three-time Best Import Justin Brownleee, the Gin Kings grinded through a nerve-wracking 100-95 overtime win in Game 5 to take a crucial 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Brownlee, who also grabbed 14 rebounds in a spectacular double-double show, poured five points in the extra period that put Ginebra on top by four points, 96-92, for good with 2:10 left to play.
“I just wanted to be aggressive for my team,” said Brownlee, who broke his previous career-best of 51 points he dumped against San Miguel Beer in the Governor’s Cup last season. “TNT played very tough and very hard, but we just showed never-say-die.”
The Gin Kings are now a win away from their first crown in three years. The last time they won a championship was during the 2022-23 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Ginebra goes for the jugular but must gear up for war against TNT in their 7:30 p.m. encounter as the defending champions will surely give their mighty best to live and fight for another day.
Game 7, if necessary, will be played on Wednesday, June 17, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. — (FREEMAN)
