6 modern pentathlon athletes swak sa Asiad
MANILA, Philippines — Unti-unti nang lumolobo ang bilang ng mga atletang maisasabak ng Pilipinas sa darating na 20th Asian Games sa Nagoya-Aichi, Japan.
Ito ay matapos mag-qualify ang apat na male at dalawang female athletes ng modern pentathlon sa Asiad na nakatakda sa Setyembre 19 hanggang Oktubre 4.
“We got the email from the organizers about the qualification of six modern pentathlon athletes and that’s another good news for our campaign,” sabi kahapon ni Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino. “The opportunities to do better in Nagoya and Aichi continue to grow wider.”
Noong nakaraang linggo ay dalawang poomsae at kyorugi athletes sa taekwondo ang nakapasa sa qualification standard ng Asian Games.
“We’re hoping that more of our athletes will qualify for the Asian Games, where the competitions have gotten close to the level of the Olympics,” wika ni Tolentino.
May tiket na rin ang Alas Pilipinas men at women teams sa indoor volleyball, habang inaasahang makakasama rin ang women’s beach volleyball squad matapos manalo ng makasaysayang gold medal sa Southeast Asian Games sa Thailand noong Disyembre.
Sa nakaraang Asian Games sa Hangzhou, China ay humakot ang Team Philippines ng apat na gold, dalawang silver at 12 bronze medals.
Ito ay binanderahan nina Paris 2024 Olympics gymnastics double gold medalist Carlos Yulo at Asiad reigning champion at record holder pole vaulter EJ Obiena.
