ALI backs energy efficiency initiative

MANILA, Philippines — Property giant Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) is backing a nationwide initiative by the Department of Energy (DOE) that encourages households, institutions and businesses to dedicate one hour each week to reducing energy consumption.
ALI said joining the DOE’s Oras Natin sa Efficiency” or O.N.E. campaign presents an opportunity to extend energy efficiency and responsible energy use efforts across its diverse portfolio of estates, residential communities, commercial centers, offices, hotels and logistics facilities.
ALI chief sustainability officer Robert Lao said the company is committing to actively participate in the weekly switch-off by reducing non-essential lighting and energy use across its estates, malls, offices, hotels and logistics facilities.
He said ALI would also engage its tenants, merchants and locators to join the movement, as well as use its developments as platforms for public awareness to reach the millions of Filipinos who pass through its spaces every day.
“Campaigns like O.N.E remind us that solutions are not only technological — they are also behavioral. They require discipline, awareness and shared responsibility,” Lao said.
“We see this not just as a one-hour activity — but as a visible symbol of a larger shift in mindset,” he said.
The DOE’s O.N.E. campaign highlights the power of collective action in addressing the country’s energy challenges by encouraging households, institutions and businesses to adopt a weekly energy conservation practice.
By dedicating one hour each week to reducing consumption such as switching off non-essential lighting and minimizing electricity use, the campaign supports the government’s broader demand-side management strategy to enhance energy security and encourage more efficient energy consumption across sectors.
“Through O.N.E, we are empowering every Filipino to take part in securing our nation’s energy future. Small actions, when done collectively, can lead to meaningful and lasting impact,” Energy Secretary Sharon Garin said.
