Ramos stumbles late in ADT; Pagdanganan rallies in LPGA

MANILA, Philippines — Sean Ramos failed to sustain a blistering start, stumbling with late bogeys and missed opportunities to card a closing even-par 72, finishing tied for 20th in the Morocco Rising Stars tournament at the Mazagan Beach and Golf Resort on Sunday (Monday Manila time).
Determined to lock in at least a Top 10 finish, Ramos charged into contention early with birdies on the third and fifth holes. However, just as his confidence grew, the Filipino shotmaker hit a rough patch, conceding three bogeys against a lone birdie over the next six holes.
Despite giving himself several birdie looks on the back nine, including on the last two long holes, Ramos repeatedly flubbed his putts. He finished with a 35-37 round for a four-day total of seven 281.
Ramos finished 10 strokes behind champion Tanapat Pichaikool of Thailand, who sank a clutch birdie on the 16th to secure a two-shot victory with a closing 70 and a 271 total. Bangladesh’s Siddikur Rahman carded a second straight 67 to claim runner-up honors at 273, while another Thai, Runchanapong Youprayong, placed third at 274 following a 70.
Meanwhile, Carl Corpus fought back with a 70 to finish tied for 35th at 285.
The Asian Development Tour event served as a prelude to the inaugural Philippine ADT Open, scheduled for June 17-20 at the Luisita Golf and Country Club in Tarlac. The upcoming tournament will feature a 132-player field, including 82 ADT regulars alongside Filipino competitors, led by the leading players on the Philippine Golf Tour, six national team members and four invitees.
Over on the LPGA Tour, Bianca Pagdanganan holed out with a birdie to salvage an even-par 71, settling for a below-expectations tied-58th finish at the ShopRite LPGA Classic won by France’s Celine Boutier in come-from-behind fashion in New Jersey, also Sunday.
Pagdanganan, backed by ICTSI, endured a sluggish start that saw her drop strokes on Nos. 4, 5 and 10, plummeting toward the bottom of the leaderboard. However, the big-hitting Filipina ignited a late resurgence with a birdie on the par-3 11th. She followed it up with another birdie on the next and dominated the closing par-5 to author a back-nine 32, offsetting an opening 39.
Despite the strong finish, Pagdanganan’s two-over 215 total was far from her target, largely derailed by a second-round 76 that erased the momentum of her stellar opening 68. The short 54-hole format left her with too little runway to recover, but the outing serves as vital preparation for the US Women’s Open, which unwraps this Thursday at the Riviera Golf Club in California.
In contrast, the multi-titled Boutier primed herself perfectly for the upcoming major. Rallying with a brilliant final-round 66, she posted a 204 total to edge Thailand's Arpichaya Yubol by one stroke, snapping a long title spell.
Yubol put up a fierce fight with a five-under card, finishing birdie-birdie for a 205, while Lauren Walsh claimed third place at 206 after a 67.
